lmfao I can't change my cell's phone number. Tom just got a tracfone the other day (and already, he's finding ways to hack it, but that's another story), and I had to pick up another card, so I figured while I was at it I'd try to get hte phone number changed to something local down here. I emailed them, and they said I had to call.
So, I called, gave them all sorts of info while the woman talked far too loudly into my ear (though I could still hear background noise), including my zip code. After a few minutes, she asked if I had "an alternate zip code". ...wtf??!? Luckily, resourceful person that I am, I was in front of the computer and was able to scrounge up Dunkirk's zip code, and gave that. Still no luck - I asked what the problem with the zip codes was, as I'd checked the map on their site before and was informed there that there's service out here. Turns out, my phone's on a slightly older technology, that's no longer supported out here. (Tom's is newer, thus his was set up just fine.) She said they could do a phone exchange for me, BUT, within like a year it's switching over to yet ANOTHER technology, so it'd be basically pointless.
Luckily for her, I actually understood what she was saying, and cut short her explanation a few times, as I got it the first time. (Which was also good for me, because there were so many random formalities thrown into what she said and all, so much of what she said became very awkward because of it.)
So, screw it, my cell's still got a 585 number, and is basically always roaming out here. According to everything, though, I should be being only charged one unit per minute, even when roaming, which I still don't quite get seeing as their deal is usually that you're charged double when roaming, and I could swear I *was* being charged double (whihc wasn't an issue 'til I started making little five minute calls home on my lunch breaks). I'll keep closer track this time, and call again if it *is* an issue - happily, Skype's latest update seems to have cleared up its previous issues with getting through a computer system (like "press one for english" etc, it wouldn't always read properly before, and it was a bitch to do anything).
In other news, woefully behind on the NaNo, but I've just gotten a fresh bit of energy on it, inasmuch as I'm determined not to let it die just yet, even if I have to churn out a shitload of complete crap to get it moving again. Work keeps me very busy, my hours have settled into a pattern at least, though it's a rather odd pattern still. Tom leaves for Long Island at like 6.30am on Monday, Dad's picking me up after work at like 9 on Tuesday, so I'll be home a few days for Thanksgiving at least. :) Tom's coming back I think Friday night, and I've got work at 4 on Saturday, so I'll be back down here before that at least.
I had a wonderful photoshoot with my old pal Shannon (my best buddy from the homeschooling days), and have gotten one picture pretty much set for her.. and dived right in to the crocheting supplies she gave me in exchange. I've got the basic stitches down, and can make granny squares! wooo!
