I am officially a meat-wimp.
I had all these grand plans - Tom and I are making a(nother) real effort to eat healthier. I am making an attempt to cook more from scratch, since it winds up cheaper in the long run, and I always feel much better eating it, since I know exactly what went into it (and there is no high fructose corn syrup, woo!). Given that the grocery bill comes out of my pocket, I decided to try to work out ways to keep the cost down, while still using as few pre-processed things as possible.
I gathered a good handful of chicken recipes, which looked like they could all be made from basically one full chicken (as long as I used a bit less chicken in each than was called for, which I usually do anyway). So I was like, great! I'll pick up a chicken, and cook it, and get everything else I need, to make enough homemade food for like two weeks.
And then I looked up more specific directions on cooking a chicken, since I've never done it before.
Which is when I realized, OH WAIT, this is a WHOLE chicken. It still has innards. Which I would have to reach in, and pull out.
I have issues making meatballs, due to cold slimy uncooked meat. I was skeptical about doing a rub for the chicken, as it would require touching the raw skin. Melissa's hands are really, really not fond of touching raw meat. Melissa has wiped the pee off of toddlers' toilets in public buildings, but flips out and washes her hands like five times over when she's brushed fingers against frozen chicken.
...I bought a rotisserie chicken from the deli. It was really only a dollar or so more than a raw one anyway. I am willing to pay a dollar to not get chicken guts stuck under my fingernails.
