blogger really *is* still loading slow, and it's not just me... they just had some server issues the other day but still, it's been more'n just that. meh. Poked around the library on campus today, and found Faust. ^______^ ...more accurately, found like, eight different translations and a dozen critiques and things. *laughs* So I flipped through all of the different translations, looking for one that I liked...none there matched the one I found online, which I like lots, but I found one that looks good. ^_^ S'all good. Also picked up a book of Goethe's poetry and it's all so sweet and pretty and longing and ghee. Yay. <3 *huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs to Megs* I hope things look better in the morning, darling... if not, you know I'm here, any time you need me. Messages for you on the U2s' blog, btw. ^_^ *smiles gently* some things in life never change... Homework fell entirely out of my mind at the prospect of fresh library books. At first I reigned myself in, allowing one Oscar Wilde fairy tale, then I would do the reading for my philosophy class. But then... The impossible allure of a promising book...which kept its promise, drawing me right in, not letting my fingers stop turning to another page, where perfect stars waited for my eyes to fall upon them... (Stars are going to be liberally scattered through my writing for days, I know right now... the book is Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli... I still can't quite draw myself out of the Young Adult section, I was wondering why... and I think the stories are better there. Maybe it's just that the books themselves are more accessible and there are fewer gratuitous period romances and things, but... I think there's more space for imagination when your audience is younger, and imagination is something I'll never run short of...) Read the book cover-to-cover, pausing only to copy down lines I particularly liked... Not a thought of classes entered my head, I only occasionally thought about what time it might be, a long playlist of various trance playing in the background... I can't proclaim it the greatest I've ever read or anything, but it was very good, and had some really beautiful moments that will shimmer in my mind for awhile yet... Libraries are such very wonderful things, I'm so glad that I never quite forget them. (I went into the small one in town for the first time today, on my way home, walking through light showers of cool rain. Looked around a little, enquired about a library card, returned an hour or so later... My method for chosing books hasn't changed either - I arrive with one or two in mind, I look through the books by favourite authors...and as for the rest, I wander and flip through whatever happens to catch my eye, a title or a binding...shouldn't judge a book by its cover, I'm the first to agree, and yet...this is how I find some of my favourite things. Found a few books of Wilde's fairy tales in the children's area, didn't find Faust, realised Wuthering Heights was most certainly *not* the book I'd thought of looking for (I get the titles of a few of those sort mixed up now and again)... Ended up with five books - three from ya, one from fiction, one from the children's - and a cd of a few Samuel Barber pieces.) My library card was ready for me by the time I went to check out my books - a piece of cream-yellow pasteboard, an odd size somewhat larger than a credit card, with a barcode and my name affixed to it with a large clear sticker. There may not always be much in them, but I love small towns...for the slightest reasons, for the details. 9.08.2004
*giggles a bit, but mostly just blinks* Hearing, for the first time, the Negativland track that pissed the hell out of the U2 world back a decade and a half ago. Mostly, it's just fecking weird. *giggles, shrugs* So I was brave today! \0/ I both sent an email and made a phone call, going after some tutoring spots that are open, and I *think* I didn't make a complete ass of myself. *laughs* At least on the phone I didn't, so that's good, and that'll be the harder spot to get... this older woman has a son in 10th grade who has the Math A exam of DOOM this year, and he needs like a permanent tutor and she wants to be sure it's a good match and he benefits a lot from it and etc and gooodness...but there again, $15 an hour, yeah it better work well. *laughs a bit* Granted I'm not a math major and have no official tutoring experience, but my grades have always been kick-ass, so I've a shot, for that or for a spot at one of the high schools... I hope. *crosses fingers* cos 'nanda needs a jooooob yo, new U2age is on its way. *g* 9.07.2004
But enough of me angsting. SUMMER QUOTE LIST! before I forget yet again. *G* Short, yet still amusing as always. ^_^ Summer '04 Quote List! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *pants* As if there wasn't enough single-related aggrevation... u2.com *now* tells us? it's not September 24. Ohhhh, no, of course not, even though like every dj and major music magazine has gotten to hear the song already and spazzed about it. NOVEMBER EIGHTH. *cries* I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! *FOUR* fecking years to a new album and now they pull this on us. TEASES! such fecking TEASES, the lot of them! *giggles and shakes head* anyway.. at least once newthings start, there'll be tons for like ever. Two versions of the cd single, then a 12" (do they really mean vinyl? that's mad yo), and a dvd single. All of which of course have entirely different things on them, "Vertigo" of course, another song, a Kraftwerk cover (which I can't yet fathom *giggles* but I trust them), variouses remixes and videos and happiness. <3 (And here's hoping their music video skill catches up to the awesomeness of their dvd and web designs and things..."Electrical Storm" was great (Anton! *bows*), and "Beautiful Day" had some great shots, but otherwise..idk, I just wasn't overly impressed with the videos. The version of "Stuck" where Bono keeps falling down has some pretty moments, the US version is just fan-fun *giggles*, "Walk On" was half cool and half bordering on cliche.. *giggles, shrugs* I'm a spazz, I'll stop now.) Fuck liers and fuck Henry Rollins. ..Vertigo was never played, the 'U2 marathon' was apparently barely U2, and they had Henry Rollins on talking about why U2 suck. *growls* (see megs' (awesome australian boy of a) friend andre's lj for a proper rant, he got to listen) On top of that, there is a fly buzzing around my room in incessant sloppy circles and it's driving me absolutely fecking mad. can't think can't concentrate can't sit still and sure as hell can't sleep or be productive cos OMG VERTIGO COULD BE PLAYING ON THE RADIO AT THIS VERY MOMENT AND ONCE IT DOES IT'LL BE ONLINE AND I CAN HEAR IT AND---- *disintegrates into a completely incoherent spaaaaaaazz* *returns later, slightly more calm* see article on interference.com. if my windows media player wasn't possessed, I'd have that station on. :p How the feck am I supposed to write a philosophy paper?! good lord. *giggles* Thank goodness I had only seven pages to read and it's a quick little 1-2 page discussion paper... (these are annoying though cos, believe it or not, I keep summarizing things too well, and can't quite blather my way through two full pages..) On top of that, our cat's still meowing outside. -_-;; ..no, we haven't really a cat, landlord won't let us. *pouts* However, there's this incredibly friendly, rather overweight brown'n'black cat whom Britt and I met at the busstop one day. We sat around petting him for like ten minutes, then he wandered off. Not long after, I was sitting around outside talking to Megs on the phone, and the cat wandered up. So I petted him awhile and it was cute. Another day, the same thing happened, and Meghan'd left the door to the house open...and the cat walked right in. *giggles* Since then, he's come by every couple of days for the most part, we leave the door open when we see him so he can wander in and then out as he pleases. He's like the friendliest cat I've ever run into, it's funny, he doesn't mind anyone picking him up or anything, heck I was using him as a *pillow* tonight and he didn't care. *laughs* However, Meghan'n'Justin made the mistake of picking up cat food. *giggles, buries face in hands, shaking head* He's come by two, three days straight now, and on top of that, it's often more'n once a day. *giggles* Not that we *really* mind, he's sweet and we adore him lots. (And admitedly, last night was my fault - I heard a cat fight outside and darted out, finding a black cat who slunk away, and then our cat, whom I scooped and brought inside for awhile to make sure he was okay.) But tonight, goooodness. *giggles* Britt and I were gonna watch this movie I picked up at the Dollar Store (they've a whole bunch of old movies we've never heard of on dvd for a buck, I figured hey why not..wasn't bad, really, and the Frank Sinatra performance at the very end had Britt rolling around on the floor in orgasmic bliss for very nearly half an hour *mad giggles*)..and the cat showed up. And was here the entire time, fell asleep for awhile, it was cute. But then he kept going to the kitchen and wanting food, I had this philosophy stuff to do and Britt had a shower to take, Meghan'n'Justin were long-since asleep..and the cat wouldn't stay in my room for more'n five minutes, he kept meowing at me from the hallway, then going straight for the kitchen once I showed my face. Finally, I had to get this done, Britt was going to bed, I put him outside... And he's STILL out there meowing and now I'm starting to feel bad. ^^;;; But it's a nice night out, windy but warm and clear and pretty, and he's gotta have an actual home, his fur's all nice and he's flea-less, *and* he's ridiculously well-fed... *forces self back to philosophy paper* |
