..on a more pitiful note...cnn has an
article on the debate over the use of silicone implants. (because there's nothing more important to go on their front page..) randomly skimmed it, and discovered this:
"About 264,000 breast enlargements and 63,000 breast reconstructions were performed last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons."*facepalm* ..reconstruction after breast cancer, yes, by all means, good. but that ratio...is a wee bit off. -____-
"History will judge us on how we respond to the AIDS emergency in Africa...whether
we stood around with watering cans and watched while a whole continent burst into
flames...or not." - Bono
I'm putting together a simple, straightforward, quick and easy to understand website on the AIDS situation in Africa for a class project.. will link once it's online, should be decent. The main difficulty with so many problems out there is that people think it will take more effort than they can - or want to - give in order to make a difference, or they think it's too complicated and they've not the brainpower or time to learn about it. (Or, y'know, they think it doesn't affect them, but that's a level of ignorance I'm going to gloss off for my own piece of mind.) So the entire point of this site is to make it as easy as possible. Small, short, and to the point.
In refreshing my memory on the statistics and things, I bounced around from
DATA to the
One Campaign and a few other places... and landed on
MakePovertyHistory.
This is the video:
http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/video5.html It's short, please watch.
On a similar note.. I'm going to get a set of ten of
these bracelets, they're $1 apiece, I can't wear ten myself, who wants one? :)
