Apparently it pisses Tom off when people give a shit about him. His mother called to talk a bit, he sounded cranky, I asked afterwards if he was alright, he got all bitchy and said he hates it when people worry about him, that we should just deal with our own problems and not worry about each other, we each have enough problems of our own. Hi, my main problem just now is a boyfriend who has issues admitting he has emotions. His mother called back a few minutes ago, he wouldn't come down, said he'd call her back, so she talked with me and sent me to NYS Dept. of Labor's job listings, which are fantastic, and was really great of her to hunt down for us. (Dad had recommended I check them for jobs, but I didn't know where/how to do so, so this works out nicely.) Afterwards, I went upstairs and told Tom what she'd called about, and as I left I mentioned teasingly that she'd referred to him as "mr. nasty". "Can I worry about that later?" he growls. Told him of course he could. Fuck it, he can be a crankypants if he wants, *I'm* going to take a look at the site, then maybe curl up with a book or something when I'm through with "Fantasia" (which I've been watching sporadically today). I know he wants to be strong, to be a man, etc., that he thinks (and he's usually right) that he can sort out his own problems. But, y'know... Fuck him, I'm going to keep giving a shit whether he likes it or not. *scowlpout* *mad giggles* So, the girl I'm doing logos and program graphics for, the one behind Biogenesis, is really nice, we've traded tons of emails. She sent me one today, we're sorting out icons for a toolbar in the program, she gave me a few suggestions and things: - - I don't know what can it be used for, but the biological hazard symbol is cool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_hazard *falls over giggling* She's cute. Tom's mother left a message for us a few hours ago, Tom's refused to be in a hurry to listen to it because he thinks it's something that'll annoy him as usual (it's..an interesting relationship they have, honest to the point of..idek *giggles*). But, I listened to it, not recognising the phone number at first. 'Hi Tom, it's Mom, just thought I'd call to tell you that Stephen Speilberg is here, having coffee at the Starbucks up the street.' *just plain falls over* 7.07.2006
A note to anyone scrounging ebay for obscure movies: things from lowcostmovies are homemade copies. Perfect quality movie, so far's I've seen, but the box features a really low-quality print of a scanned cover. meh. Given the insanely low price, I should've guessed, and I really don't have too big a problem with it, as the movie itself is just fine. But just a note to anyone who might use it. In other news, been rather busy putting together graphics for people on sourceforge.. it's hard making little cartoony dudes. hmm. Went out around town today, picked up some more ginger as we're about out (so many asian-y recipes, hee <3), got some stamps, ran some errands, and looked for help wanted things. Pizza place, and two hair salons. Not so much. So since I was heading that direction anyway, swung by the Paper Factory, which used to be one of Dad's accounts, and I love, it's so random and great. Talked with one of the owners, and she gave me the same answer as most places I've checked back - will be looking over applications and doing interviews in the next few weeks. So, guess I'm just holding out until then.. just leaves me a bit anxious, which's why I went all around this week checking up on things. Back to Photoshop with me! And I now have like five movies to watch, so something new'll be added to the list tonight anyway. <3 7.06.2006
So! My blog gets included in blog searches! And! I got quoted over on LibraryThing! I got a nice little comment on my profile there, saying I'd been quoted over on the Buzz. This was quite exciting for me, and I was pretty happy. So I go to check it out. ...you'd better take a look. *facepalm* 7.05.2006
Tooooom maaaade a lasaaaagna toniiiiight and ooomg it's so gooooooood. <333 Also there is left-over Mike's Hard Berry, which's also so gooood. Oh happiness. <3 So, simply because I've been ingesting such interesting books and anime and things lately, I've re-instated a much simply version of the "currently" thing I used to do. I like this much better. Everything is linked to summaries, so if you're looking for something to read/watch, my recommendations are there. :) Platonic Chain, if you can adapt to the computer-based animation, is interesting, Mel you might like it. Episodes are like 2min long, so it's not much of a commitment. Emma was light and sweet, lame ending though. Snow Queen is beeaaautiful (based on the fairy tale, which I've always loved, and this is as beautiful as it deserves to be), and Nana is going to be amazing. I'm four episodes in and it's already definitely a favourite. (By the same manga-ka as Paradise Kiss, which I also love. Nana's hugely popular though, from what I can tell, as well it deserves to be.) The Icewind Dale one, is part of a ridiculously long fantasy series that Tom poked and prodded me in to. The writing style is a bit condescending at times, there's no subtlety at all to the characters really, but, I have a bit of a crush on Drizzt, soo.. ^^; (Watch DS for a drawing I did of him the other day.) Songmaster as I've already said was amaaaazing omg. I need to buy that one. So beautiful. <3 Spirits in the Wires, Mom lent me, and it's definitely interesting, though it's funny how similar the topics covered are to some in Snow Crash (whihc's also a huge recommendation, btw). Spirits in the Wires leans more toward the fantasy side though, while Snow Crash leans to the sci-fi, not that either is at all bound in by those categories. Meanwhile, I am making bracelets and random things out of beads. No real reason, just wanted something to do with my hands, while watching things and waiting when my computer freezes and things. Really what I'd like to do is learn the knitting-thing, but I need to buy things before I can get into that, as I have no needles (nor any yarn with me, though I have some at home somewhere). Daf's pretty into it, and she's got me hooked (god no pun intended). Plus, the little hemp bag I've used as a purse since like junior high is looking pretty ragged, I'd like to make a new little bag like it. :) Whored myself out on sourceforge again today, and have gotten one response back - let's see if I can design game graphics, shall we? 7.04.2006
Happy Fourth! Hope everyone else has found fun things to do today, uhm... I'm collecting recipes just now, and have both a story and a drawing that've been in my head since last night I might delve in to. Tom is on his computer, having a blast playing dodgeball in Guild Wars. *giggles* (There's an in-game festival that's been going on the past few days, today seems to be the main day of it.) Chautauqua County Fair is coming up in a few weeks, and we're like a five-minute bikeride from the fair grounds. I wanna go. *bounces* $9 to get in - and that includes ALL rides. *bounces more!* $6 for advance tickets, only I need to convince Tom that this is going to be worth going to. (I miss the Wyoming County Fair, so much...) Anyone wanna come down and go with us? Anyone wanna come down and visit in general? *giggles* It's so quiet around here. Tom's leaning toward quitting the factory (though he hasn't quite decided...it's not good for him to be working there, but he worries a lot about money), I if not both of us will be spending this week nosing around possible jobs again. I-- well, I *was* losing motivation for artwork and all, but then I read Orson Scott Card's "Songmaster". "Songmaster", by Orson Scott Card. Most of you who read this are music people. You need to read this book. It's amazing. I started in day before yesterday, and read more than half of it in a night, finished it last night... and it's one of those books that stays with you awhile, though I wasn't quite ready to sleep, I didn't get anything else to read, I just let the images from it linger awhile... So, so beautiful and powerful and emotional and bittersweet and--- It's really, really amazing. Read "Ender's Game", too. (Tom's currently re-reading it for probably the tenth time. I'd re-read it after him, but it's stayed in my mind so strongly after a year that I don't need to re-read it yet.) In other random amusements: Rube Goldberg Ramen. XD 7.03.2006
GUYS! I have found the greatest site EVER. Ramen Recipes! Of Awesomeness!!! ...we punched in peanut butter (Tom's idea, of course), and got this, which we are eating now, and it is verygood. (Could use a bit less garlic, but that's me.) This is sogreat. I was tiring of making ramen my way all the time - it tastes very good, but it's been pretty consistent. Good, but, not every week. Also of interest: Someone tries to cancel their AOL account. Far, far too familiar an experience... but really great to watch. XD Bwahahahaha yes oh yes. In other news Bit Torrent is my friend. Watching V for Vendetta again tonight. <3 7.02.2006
