So I finally dyed my hair yesterday.
It'd been in the back of my mind for awhile, and last week I had a bunch of time to kill at
Eckerds Rite Aid so I found myself looking at the different colors. And I decided that a reddish sort of darker blond both looked pretty and should suit me all right. Yesterday I had Tom come in with me and give his input.
"Any of these," was his answer, gesturing to a whole couple of shelves of blond.
But I found a few shades of red-blond that I quite liked, and finally found one that I liked, and that made him go all weak when he thought about it. *giggles*
I gave Mel a quick call when I got home, for any dire advice she might have. She told me not to leave it on too long, and to keep on the gloves the whole time or it turns your hands white. Good to know.
So I was nervous as heck, but did the most thorough, careful job I could - anyway I figured if anything went too wonky, at least the color wasn't entirely unrelated to my natural one - it's about the color my hair gets if I nail it with a ton of Sun-In for a week or two, a little redder. I hung out in the bathroom while it soaked in, not wanting to risk dripping anywhere, and read a crochet magazine. Tom was immensely helpful and supportive, he came running whenever I needed him to wipe the dye away from dripping onto my forehead and things. <3
Of course I had to wait for it to dry to really see the results, but even wet, I could see the roots were definitely pretty red.
When it dried?
Oh it looks fantastic. I'm so excited. ^__________^ It's kind of the color of Mom's hair, but a tad less red. It actually got lighter than I'd expected, I was worried that my hair being darker it wouldn't lighten enough, but it totally did. :) I'm so excited, I love it and Tom loves it and it's a good thing. I'd been wanting to do something different, but.. nothing too drastic, I still have to be presentable at work. ;) But this looks really good - and I promise to have a picture soon, I'd take one now but my hair's still wet. There were a feeewww little spots where I guess I didn't glop on the dye quite enough, there were some roots up front and some areas underneath - but a couple extra-heavy doses of Sun-In got them to match up pretty closely, and really I was probably the only one who would've noticed.
Yesterday was the loveliest lazy day I've had in ages. Neither of us had to work, so we lounged around in the new comfy bed - did I mention that, we got a real mattress!!!!! Tom spotted a foam one with 3" of memory foam on top for like $250 at WalMart. Our inflatable one was in pretty rough shape, we had to get up like twice a night to refill the stupid thing, the top layer of plastic had gotten all brittle and broken and, uh, wasn't very comfortable in places. Eventually we'll get a boxspring and frame, but for now, this is quite lovely, it's soooo comfy, and Tom actually likes that it's near the floor, Japanese-style.
Anyway we were lazy, and ate breakfast while watching Boondock Saints <3, showered and hung around, I nearly finished the backpack I'm crocheting over the course of the day. We went out for a midafternoon meal at the Chinese buffet, and had some interesting conversation about religion and things - I've been listening to Orson Scott Card's Women of Genesis series, and I love the way he handles Biblical stories, it's really interesting, believable, and brings up some interesting points.
On the way home, I got my hair dye, and fretted about it while he called his parents to catch up a bit. I did the hair thing, we watched the latest Battlestar Galatica, were lazy some more, and decided on pizza for a late dinner.
Tom: "I can't wait to tell everyone tomorrow, 'Last night my girlfriend and I lay around in our underwear and watched Star Wars, while eating pizza and drinking soda.' If you wanted any more proof that we're going to last - this is it."
...the
original Star Wars, mind - he finally got a good download of the ORIGINAL, non-Special Edition, Trilogy. It's so exciting, it's amazing how much LESS dated it looks without the lame CG thrown in. Mos Eisley still looks like a thriving busy place, the atmospheres are still perfectly believable, etc.
It was so good to have a day just to ourselves, no worries about work or anything else, just enjoying hanging around and being with each other. <3
But I have a lunch to pack - the boy will be back soon to pick me up, today's a day where he picks me up on his lunch break, and drops me off probably at Tim Horton's, to kill time 'til I go in at 1. I'm so tired of this 1-9 garbage, the semester needs to end and we need more people hired. :p
