Wow. College is great. ..I'm comin' back from a nice meal (whether it was breakfast lunch or dinner I've no idea *g*), had been reading Salman Rushdie's Fury, listening to U2 and Daft Punk...and at the picnic table outside my dorm are two guys, in brightly coloured shirts and strange hats. "Hey, can you hear us?!", as I still had my headphones on. "What?" "Would you like some free lemonade?" they yelled. "Sure..." I walked over to the picnic table, where they had a large container of lemonade, and several plastic cups out. "It's free! But tips *are* accepted." "But it's okay if you don't have any money." "Ok, cos I'd give you guys some, but I have no money." "That's ok! But do you have a tip for us?" "Like any kind of marketing strategy, or advice on how we can make it better?" "Y'know, two for one, one for two..." "But it's already free, so.."
I asked them *why* they were giving away free lemonade. "I mean, it seems kinda suspicious, is there anything wrong with it, or...?" (Look, it's a college campus, alcohol and stuff is rampant, I was a litte paranoid..sad, but yeah.) "No, it's fine... We're trying to give back to the campus community." "Ah..." "I woke up the other morning, in my bed, and thought to myself, Self, what are *you* giving back to the community? It's not what you can do for your campus, but what your campus can do for you." "Rather like JFK." "Yeah.." "So, switch it around, and go with it."
So, I had some. Was actually quite good. "How is it? On a scale of one to ten. With four being the highest. How would you rate it? In pounds."
I stood there in silence for a moment as my only semi-awake brain attempted to do something with this. Didn't work.
"Well, to be safe... I think I'd give it a four."
"YEAHHH!!!! WE GOT A *FOUR*!!!!!"

*dies laughing*

Great fun. ^_^

*sigh*
...my addiction to f/f.net is slowly coming back.
(ok, *not* so slowly, but...)

Dangit, Megs...don't recommend too many fics like that, alright? I don't think my system can handle that much...(not that it's a strain on Lawrence, but----oh fuck, there're *far* too many inneundos there---! >_< )

In any case, my thumb hurts, I'm tired but gonna work on my U2phisto drawing while I finish the rest of my submarine sandwich (now that I've figured out the reason I'm so hungry - I hadn't finished my dinner! *laugh*).

Oh yeah. Note to self: next time you hear loud voices, laughter, and a thud on the hallway floor? ...you won't need to get up and walk all the way to the door to smell the alcohol, so don't even bother...
*sigh*

And Stargate was actually pretty cool. ^_^
(And Josh is adorable...even tho he's dyed his hair back from blue to black. ;_; )

I want this shirt.
^_^

(...was poking about thinkgeek cos the new megatokyo store just opened there. yay! ^_^)

Dude, we *so* just won that argument in Philosophy. ^_^
...we've got our real teacher now, and actually, he's not quite as cool, as good at getting us into discussions as the other dude was. He's alright, tho.
So yeah. We've been discussing these Six Intuitions about Reality, that various ancient Greeks settled on, right?
1) Everything, at bottom, is made from the same kind of stuff.
2) There are a lot of individual things in the world, seperated by many different distances.
3) There is a lot of variety in the world.
4) There is a lot of change in the world.
5) Although there is change, there seems to be something permanent underlying, governing, and causing this change.
6) Things made of the same stuff have the same origin.

Last class, we debated and discussed all of these to a good extent, tried to determine if they were true or not. (This is where we learnt that scientists now believe that the smallest element of anything - smaller'n atoms, smaller'n quarks - are these strings. The universe is made of string. o_Ó )
Today, we learnt about paradoxes.
(He gave us a couple of examples... one was "This statement is a lie." ...feels like ZooTV, ne? ^_^ ..blows my mind...*g*)
..and we were going thru, going over the various paradoxes within the Six Inferences. ...between 1, 2, and 6...1 and 3...and then he tried to tell us there was one between 4 and 5.
There's a lot of change in the world, and there is something permanent that underlies, governs, and causes this change.
This seems to be a paradox, since it should perhaps imply that there can't be something permanent like that, since there's all this change.
But then he kept going back to saying that what it is, is that something can't cause change without being a part of it. An outside factor has to change - has to stop being permanent - in order to cause change.
But we're like, no... One girl who was sitting by me (don't know her name) said well, what if you have say, a scary statue. When people come by and look at it, it causes them to be frightened. But the statue doesn't change, it's permanent. Yet, it's caused a change in the people.
And our teacher stood there silent for a minute, thinking. "Well, it makes things difficult when you bring people into it..."
Hehe. We got him.
...then I drew on C.S Lewis (like I've a hunch I'm gonna end up doing a *lot* in there - 'specially when we get to the existance of God bit...*g*), and said that something can't *govern* something if it's a part of that. This other thing that governs change *can't* be change, so it *must* be permanent in order to govern change.
..and he's all like, "well, I shouldn't have put govern in there..." ...one guy's like, but you did, you wrote it.
He went into this whole example, you've a curved channel, and you put a ball into it. The channel is permanent, and governs the change, governs the way the ball will move, but doesn't *make* the ball move, doesn't *cause* the change. Brit-boy (whose name is Guy - yay for taking attendence *laugh*) pointed out that the change is made by something else permanent - gravity. And I said well, the channel *does* cause the change, in a way. While it doesn't cause the ball to move, it *does* cause the ball to take a certain direction, it causes the ball to move in that squiggly line.

..all this stuff...dude, we *so* stumped him. He's all like, well, I'll have to give this some thought, I'll let you guys go for today...(was already the end of class! went by *so* fast today..*g*).
We win.
^_^

AHHHH!!!!!!! RUSH is gonna play *Rochester*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...lesse...Oct. 16...a Wednesday?!?!?! Noooooo!!!!!!!!!! ;_; ...*not* fair. *sigh*
..ah well...should anyone be able to go, head here for tickets and stuff (tho they don't go onsale 'til tomorrow).
BLAH.
>_<

...mannn..."11 O'Clock Tick Tock" is impossibly incredible.....I mean, "Electrical Storm"'s blown me away, too...but so does *this*.....even back to the earliest versions of it, in '79, '80.......
(..this's great, too, each time, Bono does it a little different...this one he's talking in the middle...so *cute*! ^_^ .....oh wow...and he's gone from saying it's a party and it's great, to...oh wow. ...protesting the American stereotypes of the Irish...and hey! I have a clip elsewhere of this part, now - "and what we are saying, is give peace a chance"...*smile* ..no, wait, think this's different, bass guitar(!) is more prominent... *laugh*)

Ahhh.... I <3 U2. ^_^ ...have been all listening to Achtung Baby and Zoo and stuff... kept trying to get hooked up with u2bloodredsky.com to get a ZooTV concert (pref. the Sydney one). Finally managed that...started in on anotehr concert (where one file was labeled "Larry speech"!!!! ^_^), but got disconnected...amazingly, was able to get reconnected to one of the mirror sites today, and while I couldn't finish getting the one I started last night, this thing is going *crazy* fast - where it usually takes me like, 4-6 hours? it's takin' me maybe 20 minutes to get a *couple* of concerts! ^_^
Thus, been on a d/n'ing spree, tho after I get these couple I'm workin' on (maybe 'nother half hour), I'm gettin' off so someone else can get on it... but recent/current downloads include:

*Boygroup - 11-81, in Germany..with a cranky Bono? (will have to listen..)
*bunch of 3rd leg October tour - Riverboat President (2-11-82; first American show on October tour, performed on a boat *G*), Minneapolis (2-21-82), St. Patrick's Day (3-17-82; first live performace of "Tomorrow", or so Bono claims, *really* cool, very dif. opening, Edge on tin whistle ^_^; also says "U2 were supposed to "sneak into" the parade, but decided against it when IRA member Bobby Sands dies earlier that day from his hunger strike. They change their mind, and instead quickly organize a solid, sell-out performance at The Ritz"), New York (3-18-82)
*Catholic or Protestant (12-02-82; "pre-War tour", first performace of NYD, abbreviated form)
*Lyon (10-18-84; first performance ever of "Bad" and "Indian Summer Sky" - ISS I've never heard a live version of! ^_^ ..tho it says Bono gets pissed at someone at the end on this one)
*Keeping the Faith Vol. 2 (1-23-84) ---err, wait. this's just "Indian Summer Sky" off a compliation bootleg. *shrug*
*Happy New Year (12-31-89)
*X-mas at the Point Depot (12-26-89; proclaimed one of the best U2 gigs ever..we'll see *g*)
Rotterdam 90 (1-6-90; "Running to Stand Still" has an extra verse)
*ZooTV Sydney (same's on the ZooTV vid)
*Heil Muenchen (two unreleased soundcheck tracks from '92 - had one, possibly both, or parts of before, but now have both in full ^_^)
*...tried for East Rutherford, '92, with the Lar-bit, but got disconnected...will have to wait 'til I can get back on that server.
Yay. ^_^
(hehe. yes, I'm obsessed...but seriously, these are downloading *so* impossibly fast, I'm taking advantage of the speed that I don't usually get here! ^_^ ..(honestly, tho, stopping now. gonna go back later and try to get that E. Rutherford one, but that's it. *g*)

Oh, yeah. Should anyone want a copy of something, might be able to arrange that. ^_^ (Mainly mom, let me know - I know you haven't got this kind of internet connection to get this stuff.. *g*)

'nother random compliment on the red pants, from some random guy over by the dining hall. ^_^

So... activities nights wasn't quite what I'd hoped - there were *way* too many people in there, was so hard to get anywhere thru the crowds...and I was tired and hot anyway...meh...most of the stuff I looked into wasn't as cool as I thought it was gonna be...

...except for the chapter of Amnesty Int'l. *That* is gonna be *great*, I think. ^_^ Chatted with a few of the girls who're in it, they were really nice and stuff, said they were very active with doing stuff, which is good. ^_^

So tired...bleh...and I've still got bunches of art homework and stuff. Should do some of that aural theory, too, I s'pose...meh.

Meanwhile, been over at the Macphisto Society again. Ahhh, Mackie, my darling..... ^_~ ...fic there is *far* too enjoyable. (Ok, it gets kinda confusing sometimes, just the way it's written, and even *they* get their characters crossed now and again, it seems, but...it's Mackie. *smile*) ^~_~^

A different kind of wild west.

Find out what Cartoon location you are.

"Are you prone to feelings of lonliness or at least feelings of emptiness? Can you shoot things with amazing accuracy? Chances are your answer is either "yes" or "...maybe, what's it to you?". Planet Gunsmoke is a relatively large desert full of skilled gunsmen. With that in mind, you don't drink much water do you?"
yay desert. *g*
..meh. I'm tired. was all energetic and Mackie-feeling earlier. now I'm just tired and kinda bleh.
...that's it. printing some Mackie pics, and working on a drawing or two. ^_^

Take This Quiz!

("Rococo: A style of art, especially architecture and decorative art, that originated in France in the early 18th century and is marked by elaborate ornamentation, as with a profusion of scrolls, foliage, and animal forms." - dictionary.com)

height="150">

Goth Are You?

*laugh* yeah....*g*

Take the Dessert Quiz

Hrm. *That* was interesting. *laugh* ..but she's got a nice site layout...bleh. why can't I do stuff like that? nice, simple, clean, but pretty. nice. (..oh yeah...for one thing, I'm too lazy to figure it out, for another..see the first quiz result there. >_< *laugh*)

Meanwhile... got a compliment on the shiny red pants today. (Count on Kat...^_^)
..am very tired, tho...dude, last night? frickin' dreamt that I was in school. How sad is *that*?!? ...*laugh* 'course, back home, school *is* starting today. Haha. I've been in classes for a week and a half, don't come cryin' t'me.
^~_~^
..oh, and speaking of which? ..watched the Mackie-portion of my ZooTV vid last night...started drawing U2phistos today. ^_~ (Got their poses all figured out, roughly sketched..but have a ways to go still.)
Put up chapter 4 of UtE today...

*yawn* ...dude, crap. I was gonna go to the library...meh...so tired, tho...and activities night's tonight, gotta be conscious for *that*. ^_^

...law of undulation, guys...hits us all (and usually at about the same time, y'notice that? *wry grin*). We'll pull thru, we always do.

...don't worry too much about gettin' thru yer senior year, guys...this is your *last year* of all the bs. If you've made it this far, you can make it the rest of the way. ...and the year won't be all bad, honest, it won't be, there'll be a lot of great times...
...even without the proms and everything. trust me. (if yer parents don't believe it, tell 'em to talk with me for awhile. ^_^)

"Baby, don't cry..." (<3, Bono)

Wow, Laur... you have any idea how much you sound like I did, about the beginning of last year?
*smile*
...but...I don't know. See, *you* still have that...the passion about it. ...to you, it prolly just looks like cynicism, etc...but...it's not, not quite. Me? *half-laugh* ...I've made it to college, passed that huge sign that says FREEDOM AHEAD.....and what've I done with it?
Spent tons of time on my cpu. Drew a bunch of pics for my sister. Written some fanfic. Watched a heck of a lot of Star Trek. ...watched people chatting and joking and laughing with their friends, sat on the outside and just watched...daydream...listen to music...
...what kind of "life" is this??
...ideal in so many ways, yes - I've got a philosophy class that I think's gonna be great, am definitely learning in Art History..and prolly will learn in my theory classes as well. And I've plenty of time to myself, to pursue the things I want - namely, art, music, writing.
...but...
...I stop to ask myself, what am I *doing* with it?
...and okay, maybe I shouldn't be too hard on myself, I'm still a student, still learning...but then, you are your entire life, so that's no excuse...*sigh* I don't know.

..listening to "Change" by Accuface... "I know you're out there. I know that you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change." And it's this whole fast-paced cool techno thing...and it carries you along, this whole driving thing...and it's like, yay, this's my generation, the world's changing, with the internet and the wealth of information there...
...but then I stop and I'm like, wait.
What have I done that's at all worthwhile?
..contributed a few stories, a few rants...ooo, yay, what angsty teen hasn't? ...some drawings, and they're nice, but... ...can play flute, but...
...what can I *do* with this?...everyone's always told me how blessed I am, with all these talents - intelligence, art, music, everything - but I don't know what to *do* with them. ...everyone else *knows* what they want to do, or at least, have a direction...but me?...I've changed my mind a thousand times, I could go in so many directions that I've no idea which path to follow.....
...and most days? I just sit on the cpu, writing to friends, reading bmb and megatokyo, writing some fanfic or playing in photoshop...read some...draw and write some...
I've written some letters for Amnesty Int'l, yes, I helped found Leo Club in the high school, yes, I've helped sponser Samweli and the others, yes...
...but for 18 years?
...that's not a lot to show.....

But getting back to where I started, what I'd *meant* to say... Laur - yer not alone in where you are now, that's just where I was last year. *Exactly* where I was, so many times, have you any idea? *smile* ...just, the pointlessness of it all (why d'you think I came in late, went home early, so many times - me, who'd always had perfect attendence? *wry grin*)... ...ah, whatever, you've all heard it before from me (check the archives here if you don't remember *g*)...just Laur, I'm always willing to listen if ya need to vent. *smile*

Ask Your Representative to Help Free Leyla Zana
"Leyla Zana was arrested for peaceful expression of her views. Her trial in Turkey fell deplorably short of international standards for fairness. Her conviction has been condemned by the European Parliament, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, Amnesty International, and human rights activists worldwide.
Now serving a 15-year prison sentence. ...
Leyla Zana was the first Kurdish woman elected to the Turkish Parliament. The Turkish government does not recognize Kurds as an ethnic minority and has long suppressed the Kurdish ethno-lingual culture as a threat to national unity. At her inauguration as a member of parliament in 1991, Leyla Zana took the oath of loyalty in Turkish, as required by law, and then added in Kurdish, "I shall struggle so that the Kurdish and Turkish people may live peacefully together in a democratic framework." Members of parliament responded with cries of "Separatist," "Traitor," and "Arrest her." "
She was arrested once her pol. immunity was up, and the trial was frickin' crap, wasn't fair *in* the least. Go. Click. Help save the world. ^_^

Sorry. Voting closed. Have started putting up the story already. *g*
Uhm. Yeah. I decided to go with "Until the End of the World (On the Edge of Forever Mix)".
Guess what? ...there wasn't enough room to get the "mix" there in the main title-area. >_<#
...and I have just fought with formatting with f/f.net for...at least two hours. @_@
My neck hurts, I'm goin' t'bed.
Go read and review what's up so far!

^_^

Ok. Am taking a vote. Daf, Laur, you guys know my bighugevast U2 fic, right? right. I still can't decide on a title.
So...
"Until the End of the World (Demon Dance Mix)"
"Until the End of the World (On the Edge of Forever)"
"Until the End of the World (On the Edge of Forever Mix)"

...which one should I go with???
(Actually, this vote's open to anyone and everyone who sees this, just that Daf and Laur've actually *read* it...*g* Well, so's Mom. But..yeah. *g*)
Leave a vote in the comments (assuming they're working for once..^^; )!

Dude...ok, there's a couple different versions of "Electrical Storm" floating about...and the "single version" is quite different-sounding than the one I first heard (the BBC version). Single version's a lot more radio-friendly...still very, very good, bt not quite as...ethereal? as the first. Head here for more details, if yer interested. *g*
